George C. Marshall
"In honoring George C. Marshall,
we also do honor to a concept which saved the free world once
and which can save it again."

The Man

Born 1880, graduating from Virginia Military Institute in 1901, George Catlett Marshall served the United States and our Alliance as Chief of Staff of the Army, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense.

Marshall's leadership, diplomacy, integrity and vision led the world into an unprecedented era of peace. He was the architect of both the victory and the peace.

His personal efforts to extend the helping hand to rebuild a then devastated Europe, led to the $16.2 billion Economic Recovery Program (ERP), known as the Marshall Plan. His plan changed the course of history for mankind. It was the first time in history that the victors rebuilt the vanquished. The Marshall Plan became the foundation for the current unification of the European Union.

Soldier, Citizen, and Statesman Marshall was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for his great humanitarian efforts and multiple contributions to world peace and understanding.

" The more I see and talk to him the more I am convinced he's the great one of the age...the Architect of Peace." Harry Truman

"The greatest dimension of this giant of a man is not his towering achievements in both war and peace but the magnificence of his selflessness in the performance of duty." Pamela Harriman

"Preserving Dodona Manor as a memorial to this outstanding soldier and statesman will preserve General Marshall's legacy for generations to come." Colin Powell
